Alcoholic Liver Disease - This nomogram is used
for evaluating the risk of death 30 days post TIPS in patients who have
cirrhosis related
to alcohol or cholestasis. Viral hepatitis or heavy
metal disease should use the "B" nomogram.
Example Green: Total Bilirubin 3, INR is 2. Connect the dots and draw the line to intersect the middle verticle line. Draw a second line from this intersection thru the creatinine 2.5 and note the point at which it intersects the nomogram = 0.6. This patient has a 60% chance of death by the time 30 days has passed post TIPS.
Example Red: This patient has better liver function (T.B. = 2 and INR = 1.3) with the same renal function (Cr = 2.5) Probability of death is lower 32%.
Example Orange: This patient has better renal function than Red and therefore a better chance of survival.
Example Blue: Better renal function compared to Green translates into better chance of survival despite very poor liver function.
