Minimally Invasive Therapies Offer Alternatives to Traditional Surgery

Vascular and Interventional Radiology (VIR) is a sub-specialty of Diagnostic Radiology that crosses all fields of medicine. All imaging modalities, fluoroscopy, computed tomography (CT or CAT scan), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI/MRA) and ultrasonography are used to not only diagnose medical problems but to treat them as well. Percutaneous and intravascular techniques are used to sample abnormalities, deliver medications, remove infected collections and relieve obstructions. These are truly "Band-aid" procedures and speed recovery and limit down-time.
